Everyone likes a nice shiny paint job and everyone hates the dings and ugly key scratches. These are more than just ugly marks on your car’s finish. In fact, depending on the surrounding area in which you live, these minor imperfections could grow into a major problem… Yes you guessed it, RUST! And rust never sleeps according to Neal Young. In fact, if you let that rust grow long enough, it could eat its way all over your car and make it look ugly but most important, make it unsafe to drive. Oh come on no,w you are saying to yourself…how could that rust make my car unsafe? That is due to the fact that if that rust gets on the underside of your car and eats its way to the parts that connect the body to the frame and you are hit by another car then what you once had for support is now just dust waiting to fall onto the pavement. Yeah but it’s just a key scratch…! …Yeah but if you live near the water and the air is saturated with salt and you never wash that car, where do you think that salt goes. That’s right, into the metal and when that happens, you are going to get rust and lots of it. The moral to this story is you should wash your car, not only for visual reasons, but for practical reasons as well. Don’t overlook the underside of your car, it gets dirty too and salt loves to hide there. If you live in an area where it snows you know what I mean. That slush is nothing more than soft serve salt slushy looking for a nice ride home. So after it snows and you have a warm day, take a few minutes of your time to wash your car and don’t forget to wash the bottom. Paint. Paint is nice to look at, but it is more than a work of art on the body of your car. That is like your skin and you need to take care of it. Just like we need a bath to clean our skin, your car’s paint has needs too. Don’t use a harsh soap on it, it will cause it to fade and get dull due to the harsh chemicals in it. Use a common dish washing liquid. It’s soft on the hands and soft on your car’s finish. After a car wash, you should apply a coat of wax. Why you ask. Wax is applied to repel things like water and other natural elements like salt. Plus, applying wax removes the oxidized paint off the surface, which is what causes the paint to appear faded or washed out.
